History and Vision
Modern English Academy is an English medium co-educational school with higher secondary classes. The School was founded to fulfil the need for a secondary school for the children who completed their primary education in Modern School, Barrackpore. Admission to the school is open to all depending on the availability of seats.
The School was started in April 1998 by the Barrackpore Park Road Christian Education Society – a society registered under the W.B. Societies’ Act. Mrs. Enid Isaac, an educationist with over fifty years’ experience was the founder-President.
It is our aim to cultivate an atmosphere in which our students develop a passion for learning that will serve them beyond the confines of the school. We seek to promote the pursuit excellence and enable each student to make the best of their skills and abilities. Peer competition is strongly discouraged. The school aims to maintain high standards of academic performance in a disciplined environment. It is regarded as a leading institute for educational excellence.
The school is affiliated to the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi. The 1st batch sat for ICSE (Class X) in March 2004. The 1st batch sat for ISC (Class XII) in March 2011.
Best Practices and Values
• Inclusive curriculum: The school has an Inclusive Curriculum which involves school trips, outings, community service, and plethora of activities- elocution, art and craft, drama, quiz, school functions, creative writing, spelling bee, debate, sports, picnic and concert.
• Mentor Programme: The school has a ‘Teacher Mentor Programme’ and ‘Buddy Mentor Programme’ for the board exam students. Periodic one to one sessions are held.
• Digital assessments: In addition to regular class assignments, students have access to digital assessments on an App. This hones their test taking ability on various platforms.
• Counselling: Regular counselling addresses important issues of dealing with exam stress, bullying, friendship and safely using social media.
• Collaborative and Experiential learning: Group based assignments that involve critical thinking and practical approach to learning is incorporated into the learning experience.
• Teacher’s Review: Senior students anonymously review teaching practices. The feedback shared with teachers strengthens the teaching learning process.
• Effective Communication: School communicates through the School App, Emails and GMeet. Regular and periodic ‘Open House’ are held for parents to discuss the academic performance of their wards.
• Punctuality and Discipline: The school upholds the value of respecting time. All students and staff must be punctual and strictly maintain timings. The School has a Zero Tolerance Policy on bullying and No Corporal Punishment. All disciplinary infractions are dealt through counselling and oral and written warnings.
• Values: Academic work remains at the core of our education system, yet the core is unsustainable without the value system of our students. This value system has been buttressed by supportive parents and the School through the Value Education classes, Counselling and regular interactive sessions.
