Enid Isaac- School Founder was born in 1915 into a wealthy family of West Punjab of Undivided India. She had a privileged upbringing. Enid Isaac, B.A, B.T, began working at a preparatory school in England. There she developed her skills and love for teaching. She survived the Second World War and spent a year waiting to come back to India.
On her return she married a young Officer; Brig. G.S. Isaac and began her life as an army wife travelling the length and breadth of India.
In 1953, at the age of 38 she started a small school in Barrackpore. India was a newly independent nation with no English medium schools in the Barrackpore Cantonment. She felt a need to start an English medium school for the residents of Barrackpore. She started with just 5 children. Most of the children were those of the British Gurkhas and English managers of jute mills. With the passage of time her beloved Modern School a preparatory school grew into a higher secondary school Modern English Academy and many people from all walks of life found it to be a good school for their children.
Enid Isaac received recognition from various quarters including the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for a Teacher from the Telegraph Education Foundation. Fondly remembered by all as Aunty Isaac, her legacy lives on, in the historical School she built with such love, dedication and hard labour for the residents of Barrackpore.
